Your spreadsheet has commitment issues.
Records that belong together keep showing up as strangers: "Acme Inc." and "ACME Incorporated", "Jonh" and "John". DupeTidy introduces them. You decide who merges.

Row 7

Strong match. Same email, one typo in the first name, and "Ltd" on the end.
That's everyone.
In the real add-on, nothing in your sheet changes until you press Apply.
Example records. Scores are illustrative.
"Remove duplicates" only sets up identical twins.
Sheets' built-in tool needs every character to match. DupeTidy looks at how alike two records are, so these pairs finally meet.

One slipped key shouldn't keep them apart.

Case, punctuation and company suffixes are normalized first.

Score several columns together, so a match has to hold up across the record.
How the matchmaking works
- 1
Pick columns
Choose which columns decide whether two rows are the same.
- 2
Set strictness
Slide from “near-identical only” to “loosely similar”.
- 3
Meet the matches
Likely duplicates are grouped. Untick any that aren't real.
- 4
Apply
Remove the extras or merge them. Version history keeps your original.
What happens in Sheets stays in Sheets.
DupeTidy runs as Apps Script inside your own Google account and reads only the spreadsheet you have open. We never see your rows.
The one outside call is the Pro licence check with Gumroad: the key goes out, nothing from your sheet does. No analytics, no ads, no tracking cookies, no data sold.
Read the privacy policyFree to start. Pro when it gets serious.
Pro is sold by the developer through Gumroad, not by Google.

Questions, answered
Can I use it yet?
Not yet. DupeTidy is in development and still has to pass Google's Marketplace review. This page will link to the listing once it's approved.
Will it delete anything without asking?
No. It shows you the groups it found, and you choose what to remove or merge. Version history keeps your original either way.
How is it different from “Remove duplicates”?
The built-in tool only removes rows that match character for character. DupeTidy compares how similar rows are, so it finds the near-duplicates the built-in tool leaves behind.
Is DupeTidy made by Google?
No. It's built and sold by an independent developer. Google hosts the Marketplace listing but doesn't make or sell the add-on.
What can it access?
Only the spreadsheet you have open while you use it. The privacy policy lists every permission and why it's needed.
